Succession On Hotstar Is One Of HBO’s Finest Shows – Here’s Why
People seemed to have written off HBO for the year after the disappointment that the final season of Game of Thrones met with. But, with their show Succession, they seem to have redeemed themselves
On the face of it, when you watch the trailer for HBO original, Succession, it might seem like a show about rich people problems. It’s 2019, and who needs more shows like that? But once you give it a chance, you will see that it is so much more than that. It’s actually a critique of wealth, power, relationships, family and the world as we know it.
The show is centred around one family, the Roys. The Roys are an ultra-rich modern American family who run a successful global media empire. With more money than they can even count, the Roys are also steeped in a world of privilege. As it often happens when the professional interjects with the personal, things start crumbling very soon.
The head of the conglomerate is Logan Roy, whose stepping down his children are counting on. But on his 80th birthday, Logan announces that he has no such plans. This triggers a battle of epic proportions between the Roy children who are trying their best to get the biggest share of the pie.
What sets Succession apart from other shows like Dynasty which is based on similar business family premises, is the deep understanding of the human psyche the show seems to have. You feel empathy for some of the Roys, you also loathe some of them and that’s really the point of it.
Succession isn’t so much about what people do as it is about why people do what they do. And when you understand the method to the madness, things get much clearer. The second season of Succession came to a stunning end recently and ever since, critics can’t stop raving about the show.
So, go ahead, give Succession a chance. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed. Succession is now streaming on Hotstar.
