Helllo Jee Actor Rahul Sharma On Social Media Trolling, 'It Leads To Mental Harassment'- EXCLUSIVE
Rahul Sharma, who was recently seen in web series Helllo Jee, talks about the importance of social media and how it's affecting our lives too
While social media is a great platform to post your views, actor Rahul Sharma says that at times people are not honest about expressing their views as they feel they will be trolled. The actor, who is part of the web series Helllo Jee, says, “Social media has changed so many people’s lives, not only actors. A new space has been created for social media influencers, bloggers. So, lots of space is there on social media and that’s good but everybody is not expressing their views properly because they are scared of how people will react. It is a very easy medium to say anything to anybody. When you post something, which is different from mainstream thought, people comment and give their opinion, you will be judged by everyone.”
Number of followers seems to have become very important today, says Rahul. “The number of followers has become quite an obsession and people think that if they have a large number of followers, then they are a big celebrity. But if you are confident about your work, then it’s ok. But the industry is working in a very different way and people are asking for your Instagram account to see the number of followers. If you have a huge number of followers, then you are getting selected, and this is what I don’t like. There are ways to get fake followers and fake likes on your account. An actor should be able to entertain people and that is the only thing that should matter. Social media is just a place where we can express our views and we should not go beyond that,” he says. He adds, “People are obsessed with followers and getting a blue tick on their accounts. Definitely, a few things can make you insecure as an actor but at the same time, if you are good as an actor and believe in yourself, you don’t need fake things because real people will like your work and appreciate you for whatever you are and loyal fans will not ditch you.” Also read: Pyar Ki Luka Chuppi Actor Rahul Sharma Dresses Up As God To Shoo Off Coronavirus Scare From The World
Of course, trolling is the worst part of social media engagement. “It is very disturbing sometimes because people want to get your attention and for your attention, they write different comments which you won’t like. Sometimes, it leads to mental harassment, especially with girls. Sometimes, when they post pictures, they get trolled very easily. If social media would have been not there than life would have been easier without judgement, without even thinking of what people are thinking about you,” she says.
Ask Rahul who he loves following on social media, and he says, “I follow Dwayne Johnson and Chris Gayle a lot and I frequently see their posts because they inspire me. Dwayne Johnson is working very hard at this age also and still going strong and inspiring so many people.”
