5 Reasons Why Big Little Lies Is The Show Of The Month
HBO’s Big Little Lies wrapped up its second season earlier this week. Here’s what makes it a great watch
HBO has produced some of the best television of the last decade. Do you agree? Big Little Lies is no different. Last year, we watched season one, rather devoured it in one sitting. It also went on to win the Primetime Emmy Award last year for Outstanding Limited Series. So, we were understandably thrilled when they announced a second season which premiered recently. Here’s why Big Little Lies deserves a watch (and possibly, a re-watch)
It’s hard to come by a cast line-up that is as impressive as Big Little Lies. It is spearheaded by incredible women and some of the best actors of the time. Last season had Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz. This season, they are joined by – hold your breath – Meryl Streep. Need we say any more?
2. ENGAGING WRITING
A team of exceptional writers have put their minds together to write the show, which is based on a novel. The screenplay is compelling and every minute of screen time brings with it a new twist. The characters are well etched out and are flawed, but very human. We dare you to even look at your phone while watching!
3. DEALS WITH COMPLEX ISSUES VERY WELL
Big Little Lies is not your regular soapy drama. It deals with some of the most troubling issues with great complexity and nuance. Whether it’s modern life, motherhood, the complexities of marriage or issues like infidelity, domestic abuse, even murder are dealt with restraint and maturity.
4. IT’S A CELEBRATION OF FEMALE BONDING
5. IT’S HIGHLY BINGE-WORTHY
Big Little Lies is the perfect binge material for just about any mood you may be in. We’re all looking for a show to get us hooked and forget the rest of the world for a few hours and Big Little Lies is the perfect recipe of drama, suspense and edge-of-the-seat thriller.
If you haven’t seen the first season, lucky you. You have double the fun awaiting you!
