Will Steven Spielberg’s The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara have a fresh lead?

The buzz is, Steven Spielberg is now looking for a fresh face of his next film, The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara.

Casting calls for the film have surfaced online and according to one such, the film-maker is looking for someone with the following requirements:
BOY age 6-9 to play 6. This is a unique & very challenging part for a truly special boy. The story deals w/the complexity of an extremely intelligent & gifted child’s situation – his desire to return to his family & the faith of his ancestors, pitted against his ability to learn the Catechism & engage w/the Pope on a level far beyond his years. He should appear to be a Jewish Italian child. We are not looking for any kind of Italian accent. LEAD.

The film is based on the real story of Edgardo Mortara, who was in the eye of a storm back in the 1800s.

A Jewish boy, Edgardo, later Father Mortatra, was kidnapped and raised as a Catholic and became a Catholic Priest.

Spielberg’s The BFG starred the lesser known Ruby Barnhill, who had earlier appeared in the 2015 show
