Padma Lakshmi Calls Out Donald Trump Amid George Floyd Protests: ‘What Are You Without Racism?’
The death of George Floyd, an African American man at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota has sparked outrage not just in the USA but all across the world. The former police officer, who was seen in the video pressing his knee on George Floyd’s neck was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter, however, people are enraged as the charge isn’t harsh enough for the crime. As the protests continue to grow, President of the United States Donald Trump’s remarks haven’t gone down well with people. Now, Indian-American celebrity chef Padma Lakshmi has called out Donald Trump.

Donald Trump said at a press conference at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, “The death of George Floyd on the streets of Minneapolis was a grave tragedy. It should never have happened. It has filled Americans all over the country with horror, anger and grief.” As for the protests, he added, “We support the right of peaceful protestors, and we hear their pleas. But what we are now seeing on the streets of our cities has nothing to do with justice or peace.” On Saturday, in one of his tweets, he warned that the protestors at the White House could have faced "vicious dogs" if they came close to breaching the fence. Now, Padma Lakshmi dedicated a post calling him out, and wrote, “Trump was a trust fund kid who was probably never 'the best' at anything: socially, intellectually, physically. Like his father, he believes in eugenics and defines himself mainly by his 'whiteness'. It's likey the only thing that makes him feel superior.”

She further wrote, “This is why he clings to it so desperately, why he calls Black people 'thugs' and he's constantly race-baiting. “What are you without racism? Are you any good? Are you still strong? Still smart? Do you still like yourself?" -Toni Morrison. Imagine what Trump's answer would be,” wrote Padma Lakshmi. Take a look:
