Oscars 2021: Malayalam Film Jallikattu Fails To Make An Entry; Bittu Makes It To Live Action Short Film Shortlist
The 93rd Academy Awards is here and all the movies around the globe are striving to make it to the final list. Whenever one talks about Oscars, one wonders which movie from India will officially enter the list. Speaking of which, Malayalam film Jallikattu had become India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2021 but it failed to make it to the shortlist which already comprises of fifteen films that will compete to make it to the later stages of the nominations. Jallikattu (2019) is a Malayalam action film, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery which is based on the short story Maoist by Hareesh. 

The film also stars Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad and Santhy Balachandran. On the other hand, Bittu has made it to the Live Action Short Film shortlist. The Academy has finally released the shortlisted films that will fight in the Oscars this year and Bittu is one of them. “BITTU is a film that follows the journey of a fierce little girl who refuses to be forgotten!” As mentioned in Guneet Monga’s caption who expressed her happiness after learning that Bittu is in the race.

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap is also overjoyed with this development as she wrote on Instagram, "#bittu is in the top 10 for the 93rd Academy Awards! Can’t keep calm as this is our first project under @indianwomenrising... Whereas producer Ekta Kapoor wrote, "Very exciting news but v persevering women I know who working at it! I’m in august company! Way to go team #BITTU N @indianwomenrising." Guneet Monga said, "It’s 4.30am in India... am tossing & turning, stress eating and texting my IWR girls thru the night and here we are !!
