Katy Perry To Exit American Idol After Seven Seasons, Says ‘I Need To Feel That Pulse Of My Own Beat’
During the latest installment of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Katy Perry revealed her decision to step down from her role on the well-known reality singing competition, American Idol, following the conclusion of the upcoming 22nd season. The 39-year old cited a significant commitment in her schedule as the reason for her departure – a headline performance at the Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil scheduled for this fall.

Speaking further about her exit from the iconic reality show, the 'Roar' hitmaker said, "This fall, in September, I'm going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio... so I think this will probably be my last season for Idol," Perry revealed, leaving the audience in shock. Expressing her love for American Idol, Perry said, "It's connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat."

When Jimmy Kimmel asked about her fellow judges' reactions, Katy Perry playfully replied, "Well, they'll find out tonight!" Joining American Idol in Season 16 in March 2018, Perry, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, played a key role in the show's revival on ABC after its original run on Fox. Alongside fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, she has been an essential part of the judging panel since the reboot.

Throughout her time on American Idol, Perry not only got engaged to Orlando Bloom but also welcomed their first child, Daisy Dove. Additionally, she showcased her versatility with a long-term Las Vegas residency show, Play, at Resorts World Theater, concluding in November.
