Irrfan Khan Demise: The Academy Pays A Tribute To The Actor; Calls Him ‘An Inspiration To Millions’
Irrfan Khan, actor extraordinaire, passed away today, on April 29, 2020. The actor had been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018, and fought valiantly. He had to be rushed to the ICU of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, for colon infection. His untimely death at the age of 53, left everyone shocked and his fans have been mourning the loss on social media. Apart from Bollywood films, Irrfan had also been a part of Hollywood movies such as Slumdog Millionaire, Life Of Pi, The Namesake, Inferno, among others.

Now, the Academy has also paid a tribute to Irrfan Khan on their social media handle. Calling him an inspiration to many, they wrote that he will be missed. The tweet read, “A mainstay of Bollywood cinema and incredible talent in films like “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Life of Pi” and “The Namesake,” Irrfan Khan left his imprint on global cinema. An inspiration to millions, he will be greatly missed.” Irrfan Khan had played the role of a police inspector in Slumdog Millionaire.

Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, won big, having bagged eight Academy Awards in 2009, seven BAFTAs, five Critics’ Choice Awards and four Golden Globes.


Irrfan Khan’s last rites took place this afternoon and a statement released by his family read, “Irrfan was buried at the Versova kabrastan in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives, and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he's in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss."
