While HBO Max has a long list of users, just recently, subscribers to a mailing list received an odd, baffing email from the streaming service. As many internet users tried to find out the real reason behind this, it all led to a plethora of jokes online. After the buzz grew louder, HBO Max reacted to the empty test mail sent to users. And, they blamed it on an ‘Intern’.

Taking to their official Twitter handle, HBO Max issued a statement on the test email sent to users. They clarified it was any promotion for a new show, but a technical gaffe. They tweeted, “We mistakenly sent out an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience”, it wrote on Twitter. Responding to the jokes and memes online, the streaming platform said, “Yes, it was the intern”, adding: “No, really. And we’re helping them through it.”
