Chinese Canadian pop star Kris Wu has been making headlines for controversial reasons. The former member of the popular boy band EXO was arrested on suspicion of rape in a high-profile case stemming from allegations that the singer sexually attacked a 17-year-old girl while she was drunk and enticed young women into sexual relationships. The pop star was arrested by Beijing police on Monday. For the past two weeks, Beijing police investigated him on charges of sexual assault, threatening etc while holding him at a detention facility in Chaoyang.
The singer/actor will continue to face investigation while under arrest. Kris had previously denied sexually assaulting the girl when she was drunk. According to The Guardian, the teenager received immense support online and Kris Wu was called out for his behaviour. Much to everyone's shock, the teenager said seven women contacted her to reveal that the actor lured them and made promises of employment and other job opportunities.
The teenager said that several were under the age of 18, but did not specify if any were under the age of consent in China, which is 14. On the other hand, Kris has denied having any sexual relations with anybody under the age of 14.
Given the controversy surrounding Kris, many brands including Porsche and Louis Vuitton cancelled sponsorship and other agreements with him. Kris debuted as a member of EXO in 2012 before beginning his career in 2016. Wu made his Hollywood debut in XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
