After Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson Hits Out At JK Rowling's Transphobic Tweets; Harry Potter Author Claims She Survived Sexual Abuse
After Daniel Radcliffe, now Emma Watson aka Hermione Granger hit back at JK Rowling’s transphobic tweets. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter author revealed she is a sexual assault survivor
The popular author of the Harry Potter series, JK Rowling courted controversy after her tweets, which were deemed ‘transphobic’ by Twitterati. In her tweet, Rowling mocked a headline about ‘people who menstruate’, and her tweet suggested that only women menstruate, after which she faced backlash from Netizens who accused her of transphobia. Daniel Radcliffe responded to her tweets, and now, even Emma Watson has hit back. Meanwhile, Rowling published an essay on her blog website responding to the backlash and revealed she is a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
After facing severe backlash, JK Rowling, in her essay, revealed about her experience of domestic abuse and sexual assault. She wrote, “I’m mentioning these things now not in an attempt to garner sympathy, but out of solidarity with the huge numbers of women who have histories like mine, who’ve been slurred as bigots for having concerns around single-sex spaces.”She further said, “I refuse to bow down to a movement that I believe is doing demonstrable harm in seeking to erode ‘woman’ as a political and biological class and offering cover to predators like few before it.”
JK Rowling wrote that the criticism she faced left her in a very dark place inside her head, as memories of a serious sexual assault she suffered in her 20s recurred. “That assault happened at a time and in a space where I was vulnerable, and a man capitalised on an opportunity. I couldn’t shut out those memories and I was finding it hard to contain my anger and disappointment about the way I believe my government is playing fast and loose with women’s and girls’ safety,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Emma Watson, in her tweet, wrote, “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.” She further added, “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you, and love you for who you are.”

Earlier Daniel Radcliffe had also showed his support to the trans community and in his note responding to JK Rowling’s tweets, he wrote, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo (Rowling) or I."
