15-Yr-Old Actress Nikita Pearl Waligwa Passes Away Due To A Brain Tumour

Disney film, Queen Of Katwe which is a biographical film based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi, who took up chess aged nine despite not being in school and went on to compete in international tournaments. The film was also screened at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. An actress from the film recently passed away and she is Nikita Pearl Waligwa who played Gloria, a friend of the protagonist Phiona, who explained the rules of chess in the film. According to the Ugandan reports, Nikita Pearl Waligwa had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and this was the cause of death.
As per BBC news reports, Waligwa was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016 and the director of Queen of Katwe Mira Nair reportedly mobilised people to help fund for her treatment in India, with Ugandan doctors quoted as saying they did not have the necessary equipment. She was given the all-clear in 2017 but last year was found to have another tumour.
As the news broke in the media, many took to their social media handles to extend their condolences and shared some warm words for the talented actress. One Twitter user was seen commenting, “I am so sad by the passing of a lovely, talented young woman. I don't like many new movies. But #QueenOfKatwe Katwe was THE sweetest film! So uplifting and inspiring. #NikitaPearlWaligwa gave us a beautiful, lasting memory of her, forever on film/video. Thank you, bright light.”
While another was hearth broken to hear this news, “I'm filled with grief. My sincere condolences to the family, and friends to Nikita Pearl Waligwa. May her soul rest in peace.” We saw another one saying, “So young to have a brain tumor. Rest In Peace, #NikitaPearlWaligwa.”
