A Tarun Tahiliani Store Accused Of Body Shaming By A Social Media Influencer; Designer Issues Statement
An Instagram influencer, who goes by the handle name ‘Dr Cuterus,’ recently accused Tarun Tahiliani’s store of fat shaming. The designer has now issued an apology in a statement.
Every Indian bride dreams of dressing up in a traditional designer wear on their wedding day. Dr Tanaya Narendra, a social media influencer who goes by the name of Dr Cuterus on Instagram, recently made some confession and revelations regarding this practice. She opened up about her experience while shopping for a wedding outfit. Tanaya, who tied the knot recently, shared beautiful pictures of herself from her wedding day. Alongside, she wrote a long caption, speaking about being fat shamed by close friends and families. The social media influencer went on and called out one of designer Tarun Tahiliani's stores for allegedly body shaming her when she visited them to select a bridal trousseau.
Dr Tanaya Narendra, known for sharing information on sexual health and wellbeing with her followers on Instagram, wrote in her post, "Bridal stores would body shame (looking at you, Ambawatta @taruntahiliani {yeah, that was a massive shame, because I’d wanted to wear a Tarun T to my wedding since I was 12. Never going there again. [also what’s with these big designers being afraid of big boobs?"
She also spoke about how disappointed she was with Tarun Tahiliani’s store, as she wanted to wear one of his bridal trousseau from the age of 12, to her wedding. However, Tanaya thanked the staff of an Anita Dongre store for making a well fitting and lovely lehenga in three weeks.

Tanaya’s post on social media stirred up a furore. After the post went viral on the internet, Tarun Tahiliani issued an official statement on his Instagram stories. In a two-page statement, Tahiliani shared that the outfits of the bride’s size were not available at the stores due to limited stock. He also mentioned that it was not possible to replicate a design within a span of only three weeks. "If our communication of stock availability, timelines needed for production and customisation had made the clients feel even the slightest not welcome and acknowledged, then we are truly sorry because that is not and will never be the intent," read an excerpt from Tarun Tahiliani’s statement.
