Riteish: Everyone Has Their Own Way Of Protesting

The FTII controversy has been raging since a long time. Students had gone on a strike to protest against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the head of the institute. A couple of days back, the students finally withdrew the strike. Many prominent film personalities came up to talk about the episode.

Dibakar Banerjee gave back his National Film Award because of this incident. At a recent event when he was asked about the same, he informed, "This is a very symbolic struggle for me. The day the issues at FTII are solved, that too in such a way that everyone is happy, I would not want to go and take back my National Award, I would go and distribute ten more awards to people for doing the same. At FTII only a handful of students study, and it's like an experimental ground for better things to happen across other institutes in India." Dibakar has been standing by the students since the very beginning of this controversy and he still holds firm on his ground.

At another event when Riteish Deshmukh was asked about whether Dibakar did the correct thing by protesting in this way, he stood by what Dibakar said. "This is a very sensitive issue. By doing what Dibakar has done, it's just a way to get everyone's attention to the issue. If he feels that by returning the award he had been conferred with is the right way to get attention to the issue at large, then I think it's correct what he has done. Everyone has their own way of protesting," says Riteish.

We would just hope that this FTII issue gets solved at the earliest.
