Raid, Movie Review: Don't Wade... We Dissuade
What a let-down. What has come over Mr Gupta whose track record boasts of two taut movies? Raid goes downhill from the first reel!
An honest income tax officer's wife, who is not told
anything about his big operation and left asking---with no answers forthcoming
even after the credit titles are over--- that who was his source of
information, lands up at the exact place where he is conducting the raid! Aapki
biwi jo hoon, she says rather proudly. Ileana D'cruz, the superheroine.
A few reels later, the officer bashes up some 20-25 men
single-handedly simply because the director does not know how to end his
over-ambitious venture. Ajay Devgn, the superhero.
Ajay Devgn
Yes, Gupta who made the fabulous Aamir and No One Killed
Jessica messes it up right from the first reel. The break after the disastrous
Ghanchakkar has done him no good.
Raid is a big disappointment.
There is no tension built up in the raid conducted on Saurabh Shukla, who has
given far better performances in his career.
Ajay Devgn And Ileana D'cruz
Gold biscuits keep falling from within the walls if you
fire gun shots inside mortar and cement, and obviously there are no oohs and
aahs. A famous political personality is blatantly shown from sides and back,
but that still does not create any drama.
And mind you there is no suspense at all, but Gupta keeps
hammering that it's going to be a big secret when he/she will be unmasked. It
is crystal clear that who's the enemy within.
Ileana D'cruz
There are no peaks and valleys, there are no twists and
turns in the story, and as you settle down with your popcorn, you hope that the
film will peak in the second half. But guess what! It ends so abruptly that you
can clearly feel that Gupta didn't know what to do after a certain point.
Devgn is his usual restrained self and goes through the
motions with the tough looks he so often gives.
Ajay Devgn And Ileana D'cruz
D'cruz has very little to do except look pretty in a
saree and bindi.
The supporting cast, reportedly taken from Lucknow Drama
Academy, needs a refresher course in acting. Pronto-
Saurabh Shukla
There is really not much to write about. Raid is blah,
and you keep asking yourself as you come down the escalator: Rajkumar Gupta,
why have you started going wrong? Ajay Devgn, what made you take up this
insipid role?
I am going with TWO-AND-HALF. It includes an extra half
for the sincere Mr Devgn.
