Jaane Jaan Movie Review: Jaideep Ahlawat's Standout Act And Sujoy Ghosh's Compelling Screenplay Will Make You Fall For This Hillside Mystery Thriller
Jaane Jaan stars Kareena Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in the lead and the new Netflix outing is a true treat for the crime thriller fans out there. When a film is adapted from a world-class novel that already had several hit screen adaptations, the expectations are doubled. In this case, Sujoy Ghosh does justice to Keigo Higashino's 'The Devotion Of Suspect X'. The filmmaker brings the beautiful hills of Kalimpong as the backdrop of this compelling crime thriller and it's hard for the audience to find any dull moment in the movie.

The premise takes no time and introduces the key character, a mathematics genius, nick named 'Teacher' Naren Vyas (Jaideep Ahlawat) is living a lonely life finding solutions to the answers to most difficult Math problems existing in the world. His heart gets hope as he lovingly looks at a single woman in the neighbourhood Maya D’Souza (Kareena Kapoor Khan). The movie gets interesting as he helps her to cover up a murder she accidentally commits with her daughter Tara (Naisha Khanna) and here comes the cop Karan Anand from Mumbai played by none other than Vijay Varma who is after this 'hot suspect'.

Jaideep's acting brilliance is what I can't get over after watching this film, its climax with an engrossing twist will make you fall for this hillside mystery thriller again and again. His acting prowess and finesse while essaying this calm and composed mastermind constructing his designed defence to help Maya out of this case is one hell of an act. Kareena makes a notable comeback and her dialogue delivery and emotional scenes are laudable. Varma as a talkative cop yet smart like a clever fox is the character chasing the truth about the one and only primary suspect Maya.

What's so beautiful about this crime movie is that it takes no time to set up the characters and premise and audiences are taken to the hills of Kalimpong through the mist and breeze of the weather to this uncalled case that needs an escape. Sujoy's captivating screenplay and direction is matched well with Urvashi Saxena's spot on editing.  Avik Mukhopadhyay's cinematography captures the nitty gritty details and essence of the narrative quite well.

The screenplay is a true winner as it creates the right tension for the viewers, it's nail-biting suspense makes Jaane Jaan a roller coaster ride without a doubt. Bebo singing the song of Helen-Lata Mangeshkar was a delight and yes she looked simply elegant in her black outfit.

Jaane Jaan is a complete package for suspense thriller fans. It has those twists and turns. The visuals won't let you even blink an eye and Jaideep Ahlawat has delivered a performance of a lifetime. Yes, his act will stay with the viewers for a long long time and yes Sujoy Ghosh's sheer cinematic brilliance can be lauded for bringing the best out of him. Jaane Jaan is a movie you shouldn't miss if you sleep and breathe thriller films. A must-watch!
