Will The Real Rekha Please Stand Up?
Here's the latest update from the world of Bollywood. We bet you wouldn't want to miss this. Read on for details... Looks like the actress takes her 'diva' image too seriously
So Rekha does it again. The senior actress has proven that she may be away from the silver screen but she still wears the crown of being Bollywood’s original diva. Deepika, Katrina, Priyanka... you all are far behind, girls!
After all, can you imagine anyone else out of a film after shooting almost 80 per cent of it, except perhaps for a Govinda who faces expulsion in Jagga Jasoos? Talk about divaesque behaviour! My deepest sympathies to the films director Gattu and Disney UTV.
And wait, were not done yet. The buzz now is that Gattu asked her to leave!
The bone of contention between Gattu and Madam Re was that she wanted to look glamorous throughout the films runtime no grey hairs or dishevelled appearances for her. So what if Miss Havisham is distraught and repentant towards the end of Great Expectations (the book upon which the film is based)? Surely, you can change Charles Dickens classic to fit Madam Res demands. Right?
Can you believe that this is the same actress who happily sported plain salwar kameezes and two braids in Khubsoorat! Clearly, she was more interested in her character of Manju than in the wardrobe.
Her performance in Ghar was bold yet sensitive. Rekha didnt worry about playing a rape victim, let alone be worried about non-issues like make-up. Her intense performances in Basera and Ijaazat too showed us the actor behind the star. And who can forget Umrao Jaan?
But the bitter truth is that Rekha herself has forgotten the actress in her.
And poor Gattu had a tough time! For all you know, she may have insisted that the cameras be placed in such a manner that they highlight her best profile at all times. In fact, after completing his shoot in Kashmir, the director had to reshoot many of those scenes in Mumbai. Why? Because after seeing the Kashmir rushes, the 60-year-old was unhappy with the way she was looking. Yes, it shot up the budget by a few crores. And now, the budget has once again shot up. But why should Rekha care?
Guess Gattu 'had' got it bang on when he had cast her as Miss Havisham in Fitoor. Just like Miss Havisham wears her wedding dress everyday in the delusion that her fianc will return any moment now, Rekha wears the garb of narcissism in the delusion that her good looks will never elude her.
