Will The CBFC Be Renamed?
Last evening, the Producers Guild met the Information and Broadcasting minister Rajyavardhan Rathore at the Sun-n-Sand hotel (Juhu, Mumbai).

The agenda of the meeting: The film industry wanted a clarity from Rathore on the recent strict ditkat by the Censor Board over violence, sex and foul language.

A few weeks ago, a list of swear words was banned and a number of films including the Anuskha Sharma starrer NH10 had to do major last-minute edits. Most thought it was a unanimous call taken by the board until a letter of discontent from board member Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi to the new Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani surfaced.  Another board member Ashoke Pandit added his share of protest, a bit too vocally though.

But Pahlaj refused to relent.

During the meeting, Rathore seems to have assured the filmmakers who attended that their concerns will be addressed soon.

The general sentiment was: There should be no censorship, only certification.

Some filmmakers insisted that CBFC should be simply called 'Rating System'.

The filmmakers were represented by Mukesh Bhatt (President of Film & Television Producers' Guild of India) who explained: "We were feeling very vulnerable and insecure. Mr Rathore has understood that we are facing problems. It was nice of him to come and give us reassurance."

Filmmakers Rajkumar Hirani, Ekta Kapoor, Karan Johar, Kiran Rao, Ramesh Sippy, Madhu Mantena, Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj, Gulzar, Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Shabana Azmi, Vidya Balan and Sudhir Mishra attended.

Actors Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Riteish Deshmukh and Shabana Azmi were also present.
