October 28 is another day of a big box-office clash in Bollywood. Karan Johar and Ajay Devgn are daggers drawn with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay, respectively. And the question on everybody's lips is: Who will win- Karan or Ajay?
SpotboyE.com spoke to a bunch of experts on the game and this is what transpired.
Leading distributor Ramesh Sippy said, "It's a very interesting clash which could run close. I won't give an edge to either of them. The class audience will prefer ADHM, the masses will go for Shivaay."
However, trade analyst Amod Mehra is clear that ADHM will win the race. He said, "Look, Shivaay is a 150 crore film. Is it easy to recover that kind of money?"
"Moreover, Diwali is a time where theatres are full of families. Families don't prefer to watch action. History has it that KJo won hands down with his family flick Kuch Kuch Hota Hai when he locked horns with the comedy-action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan," he added.
Buzz is, Amod even had a meeting with KJo's company Dharma Productions yesterday and advised them on the marketing strategy they need to adopt hereafter. "That's right. You have to hear Pritam's music of ADHM. It is terrific. I had a 3-hour meeting with them and have suggested that they need to bring out two songs quickly. Dharma and I go back a long way."
Endorsing Amod's viewpoint, another distributor (name withheld on request) told SpotboyE.com, "Diwali is a time for clean and feel-good films. ADHM promises to be one, so I think it has a distinct edge over Shivaay."
Distributor-Exhibitor Rahul Aksar however feels that it will be a keenly contested battle. "I think both films belong to a different genre and both will have their share of audience. There is no cause for worry. It's fine if they release on the same date," he said.
Amod came back to say, "I think Ajay should shift Shivaay from October 28. Thoda bhi unees bees hua toh it might become a one-sided affair which happened when Mohenjo Daro clashed with Rustom."
Concluded Sippy, "You will see a conspicuous difference if and only if one of the two films is very bad. Agar dono picture mein dum hai toh dono chalegi. It is wrong to blame the opposition. If Mohenjo Daro had released solo, would it have garnered Rs 200 crore?"
Buzz is, SRK is a part of ADHM as well; the superstar is said to have a guest appearance. Gosh! Can then this fight be termed as Part 2 of Jab Tak Hai Jaan Vs Son Of Sardaar?
P.S: Another pair of swords is already out. Rakesh Roshan is in no mood to move his Hrithik starrer Kaabil to give the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees a clear run (Republic Day Weekend, 2017). But that's a different story for another day.
