Whatttt?! Pahlaj Nihalani now says, 'We have no objection to the title Udta Punjab'
Here's the latest update from the world of Bollywood. We bet you wouldn't want to miss this. Read on for details... We bring you all the updates on this growing controversy spot on
In a dramatic chat, yes I am using the word 'dramatic' or should I say 'anti-climax', Censor Board's CEO Pahlaj Nihalani has told me a few minutes ago that the 'Censor Board has no objection if the title of the film Udta Punjab is NOT changed. "We have NEVER objected to 'Punjab' being cut, but yes we WANT 'Punjab' cut from a few places within the film," he said rather emphatically.
Explaining his stance, Nihalani further told me, "The film carries a disclaimer that it's a fictional story, then why have they focussed so strongly on Punjab?"
For the record, the Censor Board wants the first disclaimer to be changed as: The film focuses on the rising menace of drugs and the war against drugs and is an attempt to show the ill-effects of drugs on today's youth and We acknowledge the battle against drugs being fought by the Government and the police. But this battle cannot be won unless the people of India unite against the menace (Some Cuts that the Censor Board wants in Udta Punjab, June 8).

I also took the opportunity to ask Nihalani that how could he accuse Anurag of having taken a bribe from the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party to show Punjab in bad light (Udta Punjab Controversy: Arvind Kejriwal lashes out against Pahlaj Nihalani, June 8). About an hour-and-half ago, we brought you Kashyap's strong letter to Nihalani on the Facebook, written in the wake of the CBFC CEO's allegations against the No Smoking director (Anurag Kashyap's reply to Pahlaj Nihalani on Facebook, June 8).
Nihalani shot back: "Anurag calls me a dictator. Has he ever met me in his life? His views on me are simply based on hearsay. Ditto for me when I said that he has taken money from the AAP."
