Nihalani’s tenure as CBFC chief was marred by a number of controversies.

Hailing Pahlaj Nihalani's sacking, Ashwini Chaudhary General Secretary IFTDA said: "The sacking of Mr Nihalani is a welcome first step, it is a cause for patting ourselves on the back since the industry suffered at his indiscriminate , self created codes of censorship for a long time . The next step forward would be to put up a sensitive, updated, forward thinking replacement who understands the fine line between certification and imposition of redundant points of view."
Buzz is, Nihalani’s term was supposed to end in January 2018. What made the government take the drastic step just five months prior to that?
