Vidya Balan's Short Film Natkhat Becomes Eligible For Oscar Nomination; Actress Is Over The Moon
Vidya Balan is overwhelmed as she shares the news of her short film Natkhat being eligible for Oscar nomination
Vidya Balan is over the moon! As the Kahaani actress' first production venture, a short film titled Natkhat has bagged her the top award at the 3rd edition of the Best of India Short Film Festival 2020 thus making it eligible for Oscar nomination as well. Along with producing the film, she also played the lead role in it. Another good news attached to it is that the film has won a prize money of $2,500 which is approximately Rs. 1,85,497. We congratulate Vidya on her big win.
Sharing this news on her social media account she wrote, “Yay!! I'm over the moon. So grateful Posted @withregram • @shortstvindia Short film Natkhat featuring Vidya Balan bags the winning trophy at ShortsTV’s Best of India Short Film Festival 2020! The film is now eligible for Oscar Consideration and wins a grand prize of $2,500!” The short film Natkhat sheds light on important social issues such as patriarchy, domestic violence, and more through Vidya Balan- Sanika Patel’s mother-son act. The actress, in a conversation with IANS, expressed being overwhelmed as the great news comes in the midst of a year that has been quite challenging for one and all.
She said, “In a year that has been turbulent, it feels great to win the first award for our film that leads the way directly to Oscar qualification. This film is incredibly close to me since it gave me a chance to play the dual roles of actor and producer.”
The actress co-produced the film with Ronnie Screwvala. In a conversation with IANS, Ronnie Screwvala said, “Even in these times, creativity and content have found ways to thrive and travel. Through innovation and technology international festivals and platforms have continued to advance and bridge the gaps in new and disruptive ways. We are thrilled to have won the festival and are eligible for Oscar 2021 qualification. Along with this big win, the makers have also been approached for a TV broadcast offer on ShortsTV.
On the work front, Vidya Balan will be seen in Amit Masurkar’s Sherni playing a forest officer. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the film will be majorly shot in the forest of Madhya Pradesh.
