Veteran Music Composer Vanraj Bhatia Passes Away At 93; Farhan Akhtar, Smriti Irani, Varun Grover And Others Mourn His Demise
Legendary music composer and National Award winner Vanraj Bhatia passed away on Friday. He was 93. The Padma Shree Awardee was suffering from age-related illnesses due to old age and lack of financial resources. His health deteriorated for the last couple of months. And as per reports, he was avoiding doctor's appointment owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He was living alone with his domestic help at his apartment on Napean Sea Road in Mumbai. Farhan Akhtar, Smriti Irani, Hansal Mehta and others took to their social media accounts and offered condolences.

Smriti Irani wrote, "Shocked to learn about the passing away of Vanraj Bhatia. Wagle ki Duniya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, he leaves behind countless memories in his scores. My condolences to his loved ones & fans," Farhan Akhtar also took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "RIP #VanrajBhatia.. apart from from the many other brilliant works he created, I vividly remember the theme of 'Tamas' that started with a shriek so filled with anguish, it could send a chill up anyone's spine and break anyone's heart."

Hansal Mehta and Sona Mohapatra also paid tribute to him on social media. Sona Mohapatra wrote, "Vanraj Bhatia. A virtuoso composer, musician & a master of orchestral arrangements. Apart from his exemplary work in new age cinema, he created haunting memorable scores for TV shows like Tamas, Bharat Ek Khoj & many others including theatre. He was 94. #OmShanti #RIP." Several other celebs remembered his works and mourned his loss on social media.

Vanraj Bhatia is best known for his work in Indian New Wave cinema. He is also a recipient of many awards including National Film Award for Best Music Direction for the TV film Tamas. For the uninitiated, in 2019, Aamir Khan had announced a book based on his life.
