Varun Dhawan Says, ‘Kalank’s Failure Hit Me Really Hard’
Karan Johar’s Kalank was promoted on a massive scale and the ensemble cast comprising of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt had already led to high expectations in the minds of the audience. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t live up to the sky-high expectations, both commercially and critically.

Naturally, its performance at the box-office has disappointed the actors. Lead star Varun Dhawan made his displeasure evident in a recent video. The actor said, “Calling my 32nd birthday. But I am going to tell you how it all went down. I was a little down because my latest release did not go the way I thought it would and it did hit me a little hard, I will be very honest. I didn’t know how to react to it. Lot of people told me, “don’t show it.” I don’t know how to behave like that. Failures are a part of life. My friends though had my back. [They] told me “pack your bags.” I said, “Where are we going to go and do?” They said, “Muay Thai.” So the 1:25 flight on GoAir, we flew and the rest you can watch.”

Not too long ago, at the Critics Choice Film Awards, when Alia Bhatt was asked to react on the criticism that Kalank has been facing, the actress in a very practical manner had replied, "Analyse toh mai nahi karugi because that's something that is not required. Janta ki adaalat sabse badi adaalat hoti hai and when the audience does not accept the film, then the film should not do well, that's just the way it is. Aur hume bas accept karke aage try karna hai to come back and make sure to not disappoint this time.”

Kalank directed by Abhishek Varman released on April 17.
