British actress Banita Sandhu, who marked her debut with Varun Dhawan starring film October tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. As Sandhu is in the city to shoot for a film titled Kavita and Teresa, she reached Kolkata on December 20. The reports stated that the actress travelled in the same flight from the United Kingdom, with the youth who tested positive for the mutant strain of Coronavirus. According to a PTI report, an official said that as steps were taken to ascertain whether Banita has contracted the new strain of the virus, she refused to get admitted in a government hospital.
As per the report, Banita Sandhu was taken to the Beliaghata Infectious Diseases hospital. The report stated that a separate unit has been set up to keep the ones who have returned from the UK. An official in the report said that the October actress refused to come out of the ambulance she was taken in, accusing that the facility lacked proper infrastructure. The official said, “We had to inform the state secretariat and the health department as she was unwilling to come out of the ambulance and at one point of time, she wanted to leave. The British High Commission was informed as we cannot let her go like this which is against the protocol. We had to inform the police also. They (police personnel) came and surrounded the ambulance so that she cannot leave.”
The official continued, “Eventually, with the permission of the health department, she was admitted to a private hospital.” In the report, the official also mentioned that after being admitted to the private hospital, Sandhu will be kept in a separate cabin there and be monitored. As per the report, before leaving the government facility, the October fame was asked to sign a declaration form, stating that she is unwilling to be treated there because “she felt the medical establishment lacked infrastructure”.
Meanwhile, the official also said that Banita Sandhu’s test samples will be taken. The official added that the samples will be taken to Kalyani’s National Institute of Biomedical Genomics to make sure she has not contracted the new strain of Coronavirus.
