Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor recently turned a year older. Currently enjoying raising her son Vayu alongside her husband Anand Ahuja, she made a name for herself in the Hindi entertainment industry as a fashionista. She confidently carried every piece of clothing, leaving the fans in awe of her gorgeousness. Over the years, however, Sonam has often found herself in the midst of controversies due to her controversial statements. During her early years in Bollywood, she had once referred to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as an ‘aunty’ after replacing the latter as the face of an international beauty brand. It is to be noted that Bachchan was just 36 years old at that time.

On her birthday, June 9, Sonam’s old interview surfaced online leaving the netizens enraged. A Redditor took to the subreddit Bolly Blinds N Gossip to share the screenshot of the article, with the caption, “Birthday girl turning 39, when she called 36 YO aishwarya auntie. She herself was 24-25 that time, I wanna know how she feels now if someone 28 YO calls her aunty.” For those who don’t know, Kapoor was given the opportunity to endorse the international beauty brand, after Aishwarya reportedly backed off. It was during an interview with Hindustan Times that the 39-year-old actress had clarified her statement further. When asked about her controversial comment, she stated that she has to call Aishwarya an ‘aunty’ as she has worked with her father Anil Kapoor. She felt like they belong to 2 different generations. Well, the netizens have left no stones unturned when it came to bashing her for her old statement. Taking to the comment section of the post, one wrote, “The amount of stupid stuff this woman has said in the media lmao.” Another wrote, “bruh i’m 22 and i wouldn’t call a 36 year old who i knew an aunty.” Other one said, “I know a 50 year old that calls 60 year woman an aunty, so anything is possible.” One commented, “The irony is that she said Ash is aunty coz she worked with her dad, but later Sonam jumps on the opportunity to act with much older Salman. How dumb she’s to not realize that young Ash was acting with Anil uncle, as she did later with Salman uncle.”

On the personal front, Sonam Kapoor tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, businessman Anand Ahuja in 2018. The couple announced their pregnancy in March 2022 and they welcomed their son Vayu Kapoor Ahuja in August 2022. Talking about her pregnancy, she has been very active in answering questions about her prenatal, pregnancy, and post-natal journey. On the work front, Sonam made her comeback with the movie Blind. She has yet to announce her next project.
