Producer Dinesh Vijan confirms Stree 2 is on the cards
Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree that
opened to decent numbers at the box-office is all set to come back with a
sequel. Producer Dinesh Vijan confirmed the news himself. Many moviegoers were
left confused after watching the climax of the film, but Vijan says that fans
should wait for the sequel where an explanation would be forthcoming.
Speaking to DNA, Dinesh explained, “The film’s last two
shots actually set up the sequel. When you watch the movie, you will understand
that we intentionally had an open ending. Stree 2 will start off from there and
explain those shots. We have written it as a franchise so there will be a
sequel. We are happy that the confidence in the content has paid off.”
In the climax, Rajkummar Rao defeats the witch, cuts her
hair off, depriving her of her powers. Shraddha can be seen disappearing to a
place, she came from. During the bus ride, Shraddha pulls out her pigtail
(chopped off hair) and attaches it back on. And on that note, the closing
credits roll.
After watching this climax, many moviegoers were left
wondering if Shraddha was a witch to begin with. While speaking to an online
portal, Dinesh further explained, “It was a calculated misdirect. All the
questions will be answered in the sequel, whether she was always the ‘chudail’
or whether she has taken up the mantle,” Maddock Films chief Dinesh Vijan.
The film’s box-office collections over the weekend were
not overwhelming, but not bad either. Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s spooky
comedy collected Rs 6.82 Cr on its opening day. Its Day 2 collections
stood at Rs 10.50 Cr, a great jump from opening day collections.
