Shweta Tripathi On Her Masturbation Scene In Mirzapur: Sexual Desires Are Part Of Everyone's Life. It's About Breaking The Stereotypes
Shweta Tripathi demands to know why are people making such a hullabaloo about her masturbation scene in the web series Mirzapur- It's all about satisfying sexual desire and there's nothing wrong in it
The other day,
Shweta Tripathi (Shaalu of Masaan, Sandhya of Haraamkhor and Zenia Khan of
Disney series Kya Mast Hai Life) made headlines for her masturbation scene in
her upcoming series Mirzapur. The scene in question marks Shweta's entry in the
series. Well, we asked her if she could talk to us about it, Shweta spoke
up, "When we make films, we play out the needs and wants of the character.
Gajgamini Gupta, urf Golu Gupta in Mirzapur is a character who is extremely
strong headed and progressive. The introduction scene is there to break the
stereotypes that people have for women. It’s to show and explore her mind space
more than anything else. Sexual desires are part of everyone’s life and should
not be made into a big deal. And this is just another step in getting the
conversation started in the mainstream of our society."
Was
she comfortable doing the scene the scene? Replied Shweta, "I take on
projects only if I am fully confident of the text and my director. And with
Excel and Amazon involved, there was nothing to worry about."
Shweta comes out
amply clear that if any eyebrows are being raised, it's a case of much ado
about nothing. Sample this too. Talking to Asian Age a couple of days ago,
Shwetha had said, “When I heard the script, I didn’t think twice about it. It’s
a girl sitting in the library and reading 50 Shades of Grey. And I was like
great, I don’t have to involve anybody else into it. I was very happy. The
scene was shot and I was sure about the director. Now suddenly, people are
saying it is a bold scene. And I wonder ‘why are you blowing it out of
proportion? When I Google, I don’t want to see Shweta Tripathi
masturbating in a library, because that’s not the point of the scene. The point
is that a girl doesn’t even need a boy to satisfy her. She is satisfying
herself. If a man does it, it’s no big deal. Why make a big deal when a woman
does it?”’
