Shraddha Kapoor Hails Supreme Court's Verdict Giving Equal Inheritance Right To Daughters; Says 'About Time'
As Supreme Court ruled out that daughters have equal inheritance right just as sons, Shraddha Kapoor took to her Instagram to welcome the decision
Supreme Court took a landmark decision on Tuesday giving daughters equal inheritance right just as sons in properties of fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers right from the codification law in 1956. As the decision was made by the Apex Court social, media went abuzz hailing and applauding the new rule. The judgement brought about clarity and stated that whether father was alive or not, daughters born before September 9, 2005, too could claim equal right in inheritance. Among the celebrities, it is Shraddha Kapoor who has hailed this move.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Shraddha put a screenshot of an article about the same and captioned it as 'About Time #Equality'. Just like all the daughters all over India, Shraddha too seems to be quite elated with the decision of Supreme Court. Apart from her, Farhan Akhtar too tweeted hailing Supreme Court's decision saying, "In a landmark decision, Supreme Court ensures the unconditional right of a daughter to her parents property. It gives daughters inheritance right to the parental property by birth. A great day in the march for gender equality."
While giving out the decision, a bench comprising of three judges said, "the rights can be claimed by the daughter born earlier with effect from September 9, 2005 with savings as provided in Section 6(1) as to the disposition or alienation, partition or testamentary disposition which had taken place before December 20, 2004. Since the right in coparcenary is by birth, it is not necessary that father coparcener should be living as on September 9, 2005," as reported by The Wire.
