Shiney Ahuja, Convicted For Raping His Domestic Help, Gets Permission To Renew His Passport For 10 Years From Bombay High Court- REPORTS
Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, who is currently out on bail, was one of the most-sought-after talents in the entertainment industry during the 2000s. His career went downhill in 2009, when his househelp filed a complaint against him for raping her at his house in Mumbai. On Tuesday, he received permission from the Bombay High Court to renew his passport for the next 10 years. According to a report by the Free Press Journal, Justice Amit Borkar noted that the actor has been complying with the conditions imposed on him when he was granted bail in 2011.

In his application, Shiney stated that at present his passport was being renewed by the authorities for a period of one year which is causing him hardships. Quoted by the media publication, Justice Borkar noted, “There is no violation of bail conditions. The applicant has made out a case for direction to the passport authority to renew the applicant's passport for ten years.” The single bench maintains that the passport authorities shall not reject the 48-year-old actor’s application, which seeks renewal of his passport for a period of ten years.

For the unversed, Shiney was arrested in June 2009 after his domestic help had accused him of raping her. He was convicted by a trial court in March 2011 under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code. He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven years by the Bombay High Court. He had gone on to file an appeal and sought suspension of his sentence. He was released on bail in April 2011.

Shiney Ahuja had made his much-awaited debut in Bollywood with the movie Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi in 2003. He went on to impress the audiences with his stellar performances in projects like Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Life In A… Metro.
