As per the latest development in the 2007 incident when Richard Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty Kundra, the Bombay High Court has sought the Maharashtra government and the complainant's reply to the petition filed by the actress. Shilpa has filed a plea seeking the quashing of the case filed against her. For the unversed, the Dhadkan actress was accused of obscenity and indecency in an incident where Richard Gere during an event publicly kissed her and this whole incident created a big controversy.

Several criminal cases were filed against Shilpa and Richard in Jaipur, Alwar, and Ghaziabad. In 2011, Kundra moved to Supreme Court where she appealed to get all her cases clubbed and transferred to Mumbai. In the wake of her request, two complaints were transferred to Mumbai's Ballard Pier Magistrate court. On Saturday, January 7, during the hearing advocate Madhukar Dalvi before Justice RG Avachat submitted that if anyone sees the video of the 2007 event, no one could presume that Shetty had any intention of doing any obscene act. Dalvi said, “The object of the event organised was charitable and to spread the awareness of AIDS. Richard Gere has also contributed generously to this cause. Only some disgruntled people have given a bad light and color to this incident only to gain undue publicity since celebrities are involved.”

Reportedly, Justice Avachat has issued notice to respondents seeking their reply. Besides the Maharashtra government, advocate Poonam Chand Bhandari who had lodged the complaint in the case at Jaipur has been asked to file a reply within four weeks. For the unversed, the incident took place during a promotional event in Rajasthan in 2007 when Richard Gere was escorted onto the stage by Shilpa Shetty. Richard held her hand, hugged her, and kissed her on the cheek.
