The film Shikara directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra released today. Shikara: The Untold Story of the Kashmiri Pandits is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from the valley. As many people lost families and close ones during the brutal incident, in a viral video on social media from the screening of Shikara, a Kashmiri Hindu woman is captured breaking down in tears and slamming the director for playing with the emotions of the people. Vidhu Vinod Chopra reacted to the lady saying Truth has two sides. The filmmaker is being slammed on social media for the same.

The people of the valley have been facing a lot of trouble for years, and in the wake of the Islamic insurgency in Kashmir, many Kashmiri Hindus were reportedly forced to leave their homes, lands, and everything behind and move. During the exodus, reportedly, many women, children and families were killed and the incident left a drastic impact on the people of the valley. Now, as the film shares the story of Kashmiri pandits, at the screening of Shikara, a Kashmiri Pandit woman was captured crying and yelling at the filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and criticising his film. In the video shared on social media, the Kashmiri Pandit woman is seen calling the film ‘Ghatiya’. The video also features the woman screaming a loud and pouring her heart out as the film touches such a sensitive topic. The lady mentions how the director has no idea of the pain she suffered when she lost her family and father during the exodus and that she was forced to leave her home. She called Shikara a film to earn commercially and blamed the filmmaker for not showing the true story. A lot of netizens also slammed the filmmaker for whitewashing communal crime through his film. Meanwhile, as Vidhu Vinod Chopra is a Kashmiri Pandit by birth, replying to the lady, the filmmaker said, “Truth has two sides.” With the topic of the Kashmiri Hindu’s in the valley being so sensitive, recently, a petition was also filed in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to stall the release of the film
