Shekhar Kapur questions KJo, Adi Chopra, Hirani and Bhansali’s filmmaking
An advertisement featuring Deepika Padukone has prompted Shekhar Kapur to question the essence of Bollywood films.

It all happened when the Mr India (1987) director was walking down the streets of London and chanced upon the ad. While he congratulated Dippy and actresses like Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra for creating a global impact, he didn’t feel the same about Bollywood heroes and filmmakers.

Shekhar took to Instagram and urged B-Town directors to create an impact on the international stage. He rued that other than Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) and Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding), no Indian filmmaker had attracted global attention. In fact, he said Bollywood films were inferior to even Chinese movies.

The filmmaker is currently working on Will, a film that revolves around the life of William Shakespeare before he became famous.

Will KJo and company respond to Shekhar’s post or will they maintain a dignified silence? Let’s wait and watch.
