Shekhar Kapur Criticises Archaic Indian Education 'Chalo Rat Lo' System; Hails National Education Policy 2020: ‘It Is Brilliantly Innovative’
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet passed the new National Education Policy, and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has welcomed it calling it brilliantly innovative, while slamming the British system
In a sweeping reform, the government of India unveiled the new National Education Policy that restructures the existing education system, and proposes a new curricular with 5+3+3+4 structure, among other reforms. Shekhar Kapur, who has also aired his views on the education system in the past, has now hailed the new National Education Policy 2020. The filmmaker slammed the British system of education that was in place which focused on rote learning and called the NEP 2020 brilliantly innovative.
Sharing his views about the new National Education Policy, Shekhar Kapur wrote that this is what the new generation requires going ahead. Slamming the old system that used to encourage students to memorize answers just before the exmas, Shekhar wrote, “Remember when we always complained of Rote Learning? Just before the exams ‘chalo rat lo’. Its system British left us. Who needed a nation of uncreative followers. The new education #NEP2020 policy is brilliantly innovative. Its what the new generation needs to leap India forward.”
Even last month, Shekhar Kapur had raised his concern about school going kids, and the environment in which they were learning amid lockdown. “As classrooms move to Zoom, its time to seriously look at what might become the ‘lost years’ for school kids. For the lockdown environment at home is often not great. Nowhere are the essentials of play, social interaction more important than in the formative years of school kids,” he wrote.
