Batti Gul Meter Chalu has released today. The social drama, which is based on electricity theft in rural areas and small towns, stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam. SpotboyE.com gets you and interesting trivia about the film and the actor’s 2011 project, Mausam
Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam’s Batti
Gul Meter Chalu hit theatres today. The social drama has opened to mixed
reviews from audience and critics alike. SpotboyE.com editor, Vickey
Lalwani, rated the film two-and-a-half stars and
wrote, “Heart bleeds to see that this fine actor (Shahid Kapoor) has got a raw
deal. He puts his best foot forward in most scenes but (Shree) Narayan fails
him terribly, so much so that the man at the helm does not know that even his
choreographer is compelling Shahid to do steps which don't do justice to his
dancing skills. Narayan has clearly not done his basic homework on not only the
hero but even the sensitivity of the relevant subject he is handling else he
wouldn't have made his second half so animated that it borders on the hinge of
buffoonery. Why does he want us to laugh when Divyendu (who has done a good
job) has committed suicide? And pray, how does Shraddha get over her lover so quickly?
Narayan, some sensitivity please. Filmmaking is not a 1000m sprint.”
Interestingly, Shahid’s 2011 release, Mausam, released on
the same day 7 years ago. The film, directed by Pankaj Kapur, has been the
actor’s highest solo hero grosser (On Day 1) till now. Mausam was produced by
Sheetal Talwar, who lend very high production values to the film. Later, Talwar
went on to produce Rann and recently produced Genesis. Talwar's future
endeavours also include Romans with Orlando Bloom (a summer release)
Ghostwriter and Heidi, (which are planned for end of this year).
