Shah Rukh Speaks In Urdu, Says There Is No Shame In Retreating From A Fight

Shah Rukh Khan was at his eloquent best when he walked onstage to receive the honorary doctorate bestowed upon him by the Maulana Azad National Urdu University of Hyderabad today .

The superstar said that it was a special honour because his mother belonged to the city and then went on to share his life lessons with the graduates, post graduates and other students who received their degrees at the convocation.

The superstar told the students that even though a creative pursuit like writing, painting or singing may not be recognised by the world, it is an essential crutch in later years.

"At one stage in life, when we may feel lonely and sad, our creativity will be our best friend. I am bad at poetry but when I feel sad, I write it down and feel at peace with myself," said the superstar.

Speaking about his father, Shah Rukh said that he was an educated but poor man who taught him important life lessons.

"My father gave me a chess set and I learnt many lessons from it. The first thing you can learn is cooperation and how to work together. The second is sometimes you have to retreat to move ahead in life."

Stressing the importance of pawns in the game, the actor asked students to never consider anybody inferior.

"Another important lesson is that sometimes to move ahead in life you have to sacrifice the thing whom you develop affection for, like the queen," he said amid loud cheers from students.
