See How Randeep Hooda Celebrated His Birthday

While it’s commonplace for celebrities to ring in their birthday with much fanfare, Randeep Hooda, who turned 40 on August 20, spent a quiet birthday with family at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

The actor performed sewa (voluntary religious service) and cleaned utensils at the community kitchen as part of his visit to the holy shrine.

Coincidentally, he essays the role of Havildar Ishar Singh, the military commander of the 36th Sikhs, in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Battle of Saragarhi. As the name suggests, the film is based on the Battle of Saragarhi that took place in 1897 between British Indian Army and Afghan Orakzai tribesmen in the North-West Frontier Province.

Did his trip to the Golden Temple have anything to do with getting into the skin of his character? Well, your guess is as good as ours.

Reportedly, Santoshi has put his film – a rom-com -- with Salman Khan on the backburner and will begin shooting this period-action drama sometime in September.

In July, Ajay Devgn took to Twitter to announce that he will be making Sons of Sardaar: The Battle of Saragarhi on the same event.

Now, it remains to be seen who out of the two actors will set the cash registers ringing.
