Sanjay Leela Bhansali gets ready for another historical
The Bajirao Mastani director’s next is based on Alauddin Khilji and Padmavati, the queen of Mewar
A couple of weeks ago, SpotboyE told you about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next -- after Bajirao Mastani -- being a period drama. We also told you that the filmmaker is keen on casting Deepika Padukone in the lead role (BUZZ: Deepika to star in Bhansali's next, April 5th ).
It’s confirmed now. SLB’s next movie, we hear, is based on Alauddin Khilji and his obsessive love for Padmavati, the valiant queen of Mewar.
It is said that when Alauddin, a ruler of the Khilji dynasty, heard about the beauty, intellect and courage of Rani Padmavati, he was eager to see her.
Though it was against the rules, Padmavati’s husband, king Ratan Singh of Mewar, allows Alauddin to meet her just once. Driven mad by love and desire, the Sultan then vows to capture the queen and wages a war against Mewar. While the war is on, Padmavati ends her life by jumping into a pyre.
In 2008, Bhansali had directed an opera-ballad titled Padmavati. It was performed in Paris, where it received an overwhelming response.
Coming back to the film, it has been tentatively titled Padmavati. The film will be written by Prakash Kapadia and Bhansali is planning to release it by December, 2017.
