Sallu vs Kat: Battlelines are drawn

September 9 will see an interesting clash at the ticket windows -- between Katrina Kaif -starrer Baar Baar Dekho and Salman Khan’s home production Freaky Ali.

While Baar Baar Dekho, directed by Nitya Mehra, is a romantic drama starring Kat and Sidharth Malhotra, Sohail Khan’s Freaky Ali traces the journey of an ordinary man (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who becomes an ace golf player.

With Salman going all out to promote his brother’s directorial venture, it’ll be interesting to see what his ex-girlfriend’s ‘war’ strategy is. Who will win at the box-office -- Sheila or Sultan? Let’s wait and watch.

Meanwhile, at Freaky Ali’s trailer (above) launch a short while ago, Sallu downplayed the ‘clash’ angle. He said: “There’s no clash with Baar Baar Dekho, the Bakrid weekend is a long one and two films can sufficiently do well. Farhan (Akhtar, co-producer) is like a brother to us, and Katrina is a great friend. We hope their film does as well as ours.”

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor also quelled rumours of bad blood between him and Sanjay Dutt.  When asked who his friends in the industry were, Salman said in his inimitable witty style, “I have many friends in the industry -- male and female, animals, insects, reptiles…”

When the media asked him to name just one, the actor retorted: “Whose name would you like to hear?” adding, “Everyone is a friend, but the closest are Sanju (Dutt), Shah Rukh (Khan) and Aamir (Khan). I am sure you find these names boring, so I’ll give you a girl’s name now -- Katrina Kaif.”

Coming to the trailer of Freaky Ali, you’ll freak out on it -- it’s hilarious to the hilt. It goes without saying that Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays the title character excels in the role.

The film also stars Arbaaz Khan, Amy Jackson and Jackie Shroff. Interestingly, Sohail had planned to keep Jaggu dada’s appearance in the movie a secret. However, Salman ended up spilling the secret, albeit unintentionally. When asked why he was not a part of his brother’s film, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor said, “I would have been okay playing even Jackie Shroff’s henchman, but Sohail didn’t even give me that role.”

Hearing this, Sohail quipped, “That was supposed to be a secret but now, Salman has brought it out. This is exactly why I didn’t give him that role.”

Salman was supposed to leave for Ladakh -- to shoot for Kabir Khan’s  upcoming film -- last night, but he postponed it to attend the trailer launch. We hear, he’ll fly out of the city tonight.
