Ever since Faizal Siddiqui broiled in a controversy thanks to his latest TikTok video on the acid attack, it sent the social media by storm. The Twitterverse was bashing the TikTok sensation for promoting such heinous act online and this soon became a rage that they all started trending #BanTikTok on twitter. Seeing so much happening on social media on this app, Raveena Tandon, who is also an active user on TikTok also shared her views on the same and spoke about the repercussions that come after sharing such objectionable content online.
When we asked Raveena on the sexist and misogynistic content of TikTok, she said that everything has a good and bad side. She was quoted saying to BollywoodBubble, “These days I have seen many users are promoting offensive content which is detrimental for women. They are promoting rape, acid throwing, and social media platforms should be vigilant that they don’t misuse it. I think these kinds of accounts should be suspended for spreading hate and negativity.” She also said that the ‘so-called’ influencers that spread such false messages must either be arrested or completely banned.
As per Hindustan Times, she said, “People look up to these ‘influencers’ and follow them, and even if they influence five minds out of those one or two million followers that they have, the harm is done. Whether it’s Instagram or Twitter or TikTok, all have the danger of being taken due advantage of, so it’s very important for us to educate our children towards the perils of being on social media, and it being used in a negative manner.” Otherwise, she says, it’s a 'fun, harmless' medium.
