Ranbir Kapoor: "My Last 3 Films Have Failed. A Lot Is Riding On Tamasha"

On Saturday night, there was palpable tension at Sajid Nadiadwala's office in Andheri. Having been called at 9 in the night, the press was eagerly awaiting the arrival of erstwhile couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone whose last joint appearance was during Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani back in the summer of 2013.

Abiding by superstar protocols, the couple showed up only around midnight and were accompanied by director Imtiaz Ali and the film's producers Sajid Nadiadwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Dressed in casuals, RK seemed comfortable with Deepika, who donned an off-shoulder Zara top with ripped denims. Their casually cool chemistry reminded one of their courtship days.

When SpotboyE.com asked Ranbir how he is holding up post the twin debacles of Roy and Bombay Velvet, he said, "There is a lot of pressure to deliver. Three of my last films have failed at the box-office, so obviously a lot is riding on Tamasha."

So what were the lessons learnt from the failure of Velvet, a film he had high hopes from? The actor didn't address the question directly but cheekily said, "With Velvet, we tried to make an epic film only...but...." before trailing off.

When we asked Deepika what prompted her to say yes to Tamasha, she said it was director Imtiaz Ali - someone she'd worked with in Love Aaj Kal. "With Imtiaz, you don't really ask about the role or the script, you just go and do the film," she promptly said.

The duo also spoke about how everyone on the sets got emotional on the shoot's last day. "You get attached to a project and with this one, it all happened very fast. We just got done with it in a very quick way and everyone was a little sad as it was farewell time," Ranbir said.

Finally, when we asked Imtiaz if it was tricky to get Ranbir and Deepika to work together considering their turbulent past, he said, "No, not at all. They both simply agreed to come onboard. After all, I'm paying them for it!" he joked even as RK pointed to Nadiadwala and said, "Actually, he's paying !"
