Actor Rajkummar Rao recently reflected on his modest upbringing and the financial challenges his family faced, despite not living in extreme poverty. He shared that although his family wasn't destitute, they often struggled to make ends meet. During his appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Rajkummar discussed his childhood in Gurgaon, where he grew up in a joint family with two older siblings. He admitted that financial stress was a constant presence in his early years, even though they never went hungry. His mother played a crucial role in ensuring that he and his siblings had a normal upbringing, often going to great lengths to shield them from the financial difficulties they faced. Rajkummar praised his mother for always finding a way to provide for the family, even if it meant borrowing money from relatives. She never allowed her children to feel the pinch of their financial situation, making sure they had what they needed. He revealed that there was a period of two to three years when the financial situation was so tight that their school teachers stepped in to help by paying their fees. The teachers recognized the potential in Rajkummar and his siblings, who excelled in academics and extracurricular activities, and didn’t want them to miss out on their education due to financial constraints. Despite the financial hardships, Rajkummar described his childhood as fun and carefree, with plenty of time spent outdoors. He shared that his siblings were academically gifted, while he himself shined in extracurricular activities, which helped the teachers see value in supporting their education. The loss of his mother shortly after he found success in the film industry was a significant moment in his life. He also lost his father in 2019, but not before forming a closer bond with him after his mother’s passing.
