The renowned late actor Raaj Kumar’s wife passed away on November 28, in Mumbai. She is survived by three children - actors Puru, Panini, and Vastavikta.
Raaj Kumar, who was originally born Kulbhushan Nath Pandit, had a daring and unique journey into the world of acting. Before venturing into cinema, the legendary actor served as an IAS Sub-inspector in the Mumbai Police during the late 1940s.
The actor’s entry into the film industry was serendipitous when, during a visit to Metro cinema, veteran filmmaker Sohrab Modi spotted him and extended a film offer. Despite initially declining, Raaj Kumar eventually embraced acting with his debut film "Rangeeli" in 1952, marking the beginning of his illustrious career on the silver screen.
The legendary actor left an indelible mark on Indian cinema with his impeccable performances, including a role in the Oscar-nominated 1957 film - Mother India. In a career spanning over four decades, he graced the screens in over 70 Hindi films.
His exceptional acting skills were recognized with a Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of a cancer patient in the movie "Dil Ek Mandir." Raaj Kumar's cinematic legacy remains celebrated and enduring in the annals of Bollywood.
Raaj Kumar and Dilip Kumar shared screen space in the movie Saudagar after 30 years. Interestingly, during the shooting of the film they never talked to each other except for their scenes.
He died of throat cancer at the age of 69 on July 3, 1996.
