Prayag Raj Passes Away: Amar Akbar Anthony Writer Dies At 88 Due To Age-Related Issues; Bollywood Mourns The Loss Of The Veteran
Veteran screenwriter and director Prayag Raj Has Left for his heavenly abode. He passed away at the age of 88 at his Bandra residence in Mumbai on Saturday evening at 4 pm. According to various media reports, he breathed his last due to age-related illnesses. As reported by India.com, his last rites were performed on Sunday morning at 10 am, at Dadar’s Shivaji Park crematorium. It was attended by his family and his close friends from the entertainment industry.

Talking about the veteran’s deteriorating health, Raj’s son Aditya revealed that his father had been ill for the last 8-10 years. Quoting a PTI report, the media portal quoted him saying, “He passed away peacefully on Saturday at 4pm at his residence in Bandra. He had multiple ailments since eight to ten years like heart disease and age-related issues.” Many Bollywood celebrities took to their social media platforms to condole the loss of the filmmaker. 



Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “Last evening we lost another pillar of our great film industry.” Anil Kapoor shared a throwback photo with Prayag Raj from the time they worked together on Hifazat. The actor went on to write on X, formerly known as Twitter, “I'm truly saddened by the loss of the late Prayag Raj. Working with him on "Hifazat" was a privilege. May his soul rest in peace.” Shabana Azmi also wrote, “Sorry to hear about the passing away of writer director actor Prayag Raj. RIP.”

On the work front, the late filmmaker had over 100 movies to credit as a writer as well as a lyricist. Talking about the projects that has left a long lasting impression on the audiences even today include names like Amar Akbar Anthony, Coolie, Dharamveer, Geraftaar, Mard, Ponga Pandit, Ganga Jumuna Saraswati, Gair Kanooni, Choor Sipahi, Chacha Bhatija and many more. His last film as a writer was the late S Ramanathan directorial Zamant, which was never released.
