Prabhas Is A ‘Flop-Proof Star’: Director Om Raut Opens Up About Adipurush Controversy For The FIRST Time
Om Raut recently opened up about the controversy surrounding his film Adipurush and even tagged the leading man of the film Prabhas a ‘flop-proof star’
Bollywood director Om Raut was heaped with admiration and praises for directing Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The Great Warrior. He gained recognition and left his fans ecstatic when Adipurush was announced. However, the Ramayan adaptation starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, failed to impress the critics and audience. Now, after almost a year of film’s release, Om has spoken up about the controversy surrounding his film Adipurush and even tagged the leading man of the film Prabhas a ‘flop-proof star’.
In an interaction with Marathi chat show host Amol Parchure, for his podcast Catch Up, Om Raut called out the trolls. Speaking about his minimal media appearance after the film’s release he stated that he was tired of the constant trolling and the toxic environment it created for him. He shedded light on the fact that despite the outrage on social media, Adipurush’s box-office collection was huge.
Talking in Marathi, he said that the film’s criticism and it’s box-office performance are two completely different things. He added, “In the case of 'Adipurush', the revenue was huge. The film did Rs 70 crore in India alone on the first day. Our box office still did Rs 400 crore [despite criticism]. So, the numbers are very large. It did so well at the box office.” Raut went on to add that there was a loss of perception when it came to Adipurush. He said, “Had we not lost on the perception, we would have seen exorbitant numbers which we didn't see.”
Speaking about the leading man of the film, Raut lauded actors like Prabhas and Salman Khan for being ‘flop-proof’ because of their huge fan-following. He explained that because of the image that they have built, their image are never affected by a few flop films. He said, “Actors like Prabhas and Salman Khan are flop-proof stars. They have a big fan following, a certain perception, and a certain image that doesn’t get affected by some flops. They are just beyond.”
An adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana, Adipurush was directed by Om Raut. The movie stars Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, Devdatta Nage among many others in the lead roles. It is produced by T- Series, Bhushan Kumar & Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair of Retrophiles, Pramod and Vamsi of UV Creations. The magnum opus released on 16th June 2023 on the big screens.
