Pictures Don't Lie: Anushka Wondering How To Comfort Virat Kohli, Husband Confronted With Several Questions In Mind
I woke up to the above picture in the print media this morning and cannot refrain reading a bit more into it than maybe required. But it's clear that Anushka and Virat have been caught in one frame in one of their saddest moments in their lives- India's ouster from World Cup 2019.

If I may read, I think Anushka wants to run and hug Virat to provide comfort but she does not know what to do and how he'll react. On the other hand, Virat is going through his phone but it's a brave exercise (or pretence) to keep your face down so that you don't end up exhibiting all your emotions in public domain.

Anushka has been a pillar of strength to Virat ever since their first day of marriage. It is possible that she has even let go off some movies so that she can balance her personal and professional lives well enough. On the other hand, Virat has been a doting husband. While Anushka's emotions in the above picture are stark, it is not very easy to read what's going through Virat's mind. Surely, he's not full into reading his fans' messages telling him 'Cheer up, it happens'.

What's probably happening is that a whole lot of questions are raising in his mind:

a) Why did we call Mayank Agarwal (a marvellous batsman) when we did not play him?

b) Why did we select Dinesh Kartik?

c) How could we send Pant, Kartik and Pandya before Dhoni?

d) How could we almost constantly overlook that a 50-over match is not just about the top 3 batsmen and one finisher?

e) Were we fair to Rayadu? Weren't we responsible for his frustration that led him to retire? Wasn't he our No 4, whom at one point I had made a categorical mention of?

f) How could I forget that Dhoni had insisted to the coach (Gary Kirsten) that he needs to go up the order in the 2011 final against Sri Lanka, when we had lost two early and costly wickets Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag? (Did our batting coach Sanjay Bangar mar our World Cup? It is being said that he wanted Dhoni to not go in at No 4. Pray, what is his cricket record if yours truly can question? Ironically, a batsman who himself played at snail's pace did not reaslise that losing two quick wickets meant that the ship had to be steadied. And pray, how could  Bangar state to the Indian media contingent that every player was available for selection when Shankar was ruled out early next morning on account of an injury sustained earlier on tour? Worst still, tongues have been reportedly wagging that some of the batsmen have had to seek the advice of former batting stars when they hit a rough patch. So what was Bangar there for, if I may ask a straightforward question.)

g) Should I blame it on luck that I lost the all-important toss?

h) Did we take NZ lightly?

The list must be longer and I guess he must have discussed all this with Anushka. But the horse has bolted!

Coming back to the Anushka-Virat picture, it will stay with me for a long time.
