Here's the latest update from the world of Bollywood. We bet you wouldn't want to miss this. Read on for details... The victim alleged that the filmmaker had raped her in June last year
Mahmood Farooqui, the co-director of Peepli Live, has been convicted by Delhi court for the rape of an American woman. In June last year, the 35-year-old American woman accused Farooqui of raping her in a rented accommodation at Sukhdev Vihar in Delhi. The woman in question was visiting India as part of her research for her doctoral thesis from Columbia University. She had alleged that the filmmaker had raped her when she had met him to get help for her research work.
The woman, along with a senior official of the US Embassy, had filed an FIR on June 19 last year. She had recorded her statement under Section 164 CrPC before a magistrate. However, Farooqui had maintained his innocence when he was called in for questioning soon after. He was also subsequently arrested and produced in court, which had then sent him to 14 days of judicial custody.
Farooqui’s wife filmmaker Anusha Rizvi had then issued a statement saying that the complaint against her husband was “manipulated and false”, and that they were “determined to fight” it out.
