Kabir Khan helmed ‘83 is one of the movies which got hit with the outbreak of COVID-19, followed by theatres being shut for months. While the theatres have opened up with lesser occupancy now in order to follow social distancing, talented actor and one of the cast members Pankaj Tripathi has vouched why the movie deserves a big-screen release. The actor in conversation with Mumbai Mirror also shared narrating stories to the team whenever they packed up early.
He said, “I’d take advantage of my seniority and my role to admonish them sometimes, and if we packed up early, I’d regale them with stories and my extensive knowledge.” Stating why the sports drama must have a theatrical release, he shares when the audience will watch the film in the theatres, they can feel the vibe of the Indian cricket team lifting the world cup as if they are witnessing this movement for real, an experience making them feel they are in the stadium.
He says, “When you watch the film with people around, you will feel like you are in a stadium, watching India lift the World Cup.” Pankaj plays PR Man Singh in the film, manager of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team.
A few days ago when legendary cricketer Kapil Dev who played a pivotal part in India winning the world cup in 1983, was reported to have suffered a heart attack followed by angioplasty, the actor prayed for his speedy recovery. He said, "Hum pray karenge bhagwaan se ki jald se jald vo swast aur sehetmand hojaye. Vo humare dharohar hai humare desh ke, aur utne hi adhbhut vakyti hai. Bas humari prayers hai, jaldi thik hojaye.”
