Sidharth Malhotra has blown away everyone with his terrific performance in his latest released Shershaah, which was based on the life of Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra. While the actor is being applauded by the audience and critics alike, there was a time when Salman Khan had envisioned the biopic with his brother-in-law, actor Aayush Sharma. Yes, you read that right! In a recent interview Shershaah producer, Shabbir Boxwala has revealed that the Dabangg actor had approached him with the idea of casting Aayush as Captain Vikram Batra.
While speaking with Mid-Day, Shabbir mentioned that Salman wanted Aayush to make his Bollywood debut with Vishnuvardhan’s directorial, but he had already pitched Sidharth Malhotra's name to Vikram Batra's family.
“Salman approached me at a stage when I was in talks with Junglee Pictures. He wanted Shershaah to be Aayush Sharma’s debut film, and wanted to partner with me on it," Shabbir said. However, the role was eventually played by Sidharth as Captain Batra’s family 'unanimously seconded' on the idea of him playing the Param Vir Chakra awardee.
“It would have been highly unethical to drop him for another actor. When Captain Batra’s family gave me the rights, it was a big moment for me. They showed immense trust in me, and I didn’t want to go wrong at any step. I explained [my predicament] to Salman, who was understanding. Aayush was sweet and sportingly said that playing a double role in his debut movie might be [a tall order],” he added.
Aayush Sharma eventually made his debut with Loveyatri, under Salman's production house Salman Khan Films, alongside Warina Hussain.
Talking about Shershaah, the biopic also features Kiara Advani in the role of Vikram's girlfriend Dimple Cheema. Bankrolled by Karan Johar, the film was released on 12 August 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.
