Neena Gupta Laments The Industry Is Male-Dominated, ‘I Am Not Amitabh Bachchan, No Roles Written For Women’

During an interview, Neena Gupta hit out at India's male-dominated film industry and said she’s not Amitabh Bachchan as there are no roles written for women in the industry. Neena recently celebrated her 61st birthday

Neena Gupta Laments The Industry Is Male-Dominated, ‘I Am Not Amitabh Bachchan, No Roles Written For Women’
Despite working for 3 decades now, Neena Gupta is getting recognition for her work from past 2. The actress, who has been applauded for her performance in films like Ayushmann Khurrana-Sanya Malhotra led Badhaai Ho, Ayushmann and Jitendra led Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Kangana Ranaut led Panga, turned a year older yesterday. Neena Gupta celebrated her birthday with her husband Vivek Mehra at their her holiday house in Mukteshwar. While her daughter is quarantining in Goa with boyfriend Satyadeep Misra. 

During her interview with India.com, the actress hit at the male-dominated industry and said she’s not Amitabh Bachchan and there are no roles written for women in the industry. She told India.com, “People noticed me after Badhaai Ho. I think right now, I am known as a good character actor. I have not got that kind of fame. There are very few roles for women. I can’t be the heroine. Men (of my age) can still do main-leads. Women can’t.”

Talking about now getting recognition, she told the portal, “I am quite content in life otherwise. I thank God every day that he has given me so much. I definitely want to get good work. I am positive and satisfied.” 


Meanwhile, on Neena Gupta’s 61st birthday, her daughter Masaba’s boyfriend Satyadeep Misra sent her a video while wishing her on birthday. In her video, Satyadeep Misra said, “"Happy birthday Neena ji, main aap ki yeh message record karne ke liye bahut shareef lag raha hun abhi. But there are two sets of lucky people these days - one group that's in Mukteshwar and the other group that's in Goa. From one set of very fortunate people to the other - Have a great year, a great day. See you in Goa soon, we are looking for houses for you here."
